Matt and Annette Lauer Welcome a Third Baby

Wednesday November 29, 2006
People magazine is reporting that television anchor Matt Lauer, 48, and his wife Annette, 41, welcomed their third baby into the world yesterday. Their new son named Thijs, will join brother Jack, 5, and sister Romy, 3. I know what you must be thinking - did she let that typo slip by? I most certainly did not, as "Thijs" is definitely the baby's unique new name.

Apparently, the name is pronounced Tice and is quite the common Dutch name, which honors Annette's heritage. While I think it's a lovely sentiment, the poor kid will probably be teased by his classmates in a few years. I can already hear it now..."Hey, this, how about that?" and "Hey, nice thighs!" Unless, by that time, Brad and Angelina have turned homeschooling into the hottest new trend.

Y’know, they never learn. My older sister grew up MEAN because she had an unusual name. She was always irritated that she couldn’t buy any little knick-knack with her name on it, while the rest of us could. But we are becoming far more multicultural, so I think the babies of today will grow up used to having a unique name. I had the luxury of having a “normal” name that still is rare enough I was always the only one in the room.

It’s a very common name in Holland, it stems from Matthijs which is the Dutch version of Matthew. Hey, at least it’s not as bad as Pilot Inspector right?
