Isaiah Washington is Fired From Grey's Anatomy

Friday June 8, 2007
Word on the street is that Isaiah Washington has been fired from his post on Grey's Anatomy. Isaiah's rep Howard Bragman confirmed to TMZ that the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, called the actor and delivered the news herself. Reportedly, the decision not to invite him back next season stems from a "pattern of problematic behavior." It's safe to assume that it had something to do with what he said to T.R. Knight. Isaiah immediately released a statement saying, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more." Not surprisingly, he's probably less than pleased to be losing such a fat and easy paycheck.

I’ve been a loyal viewer of Grey’s Antatomy since day one and never missed an episode. Isaiah Washington is a fabulous actor and the show will never be the same without him. His presence was powerful. ABC made a huge mistake. I WILL NOT be watching Grey’s Anatomy this coming season. There are other excellent competing shows. It’s time to make a change. When Grey’s Anatomy significantly drops in the ratings this fall it will be due to ABC’s blunder.

I’m disappointed to hear he’s fired. He should have kept his professionalism at work, and refrained from commenting on anyone’s sexuality. Also, he should not have thrown McDreamy up against the wall with his hands around his neck. I really like him as an actor, and on the show. He’s intense. I do not respect the producers for waiting this long to fire him. If they were going to fire him, they should have done it before. instead of conveniently waiting until the season is over.

It’s an outright shame. What’s funny is after they use him as the “token” for the show. Used him to make the “mixed relationship” episodes matter, they axed him for his personal views. If ABC truly had a creative writing team, they would have used the hoopla for another 2 or 3 episodes dealing with homosexuality. What he should had said to “McDreamy” is “You can’t push me around! Im not like the executives at ABC!” instead of dropping the f-bomb.

Oh well, I guess it’s House w/Omar Epps for me this season.

It’s a shame they fired him, especially if it was over that one comment. He is one of the best actors on that show, and I’m seriously thinking about not watching anymore.

Washington was probably the most intense,
interesting & intelligent Doctor on the show. I hope he gets another great job,
or maybe become a new Poster Child for the”Whatever Happened to the Freedom of Speech Rights in America” movement. ABC will be sorry!!

I hate what he said, but he is an excellent actor. He tried his best to bounce back from that incident and has done everything he could to correct his mistake. I could see if he was just a jerk who said screw you all, but he tried to show his remorse in every way.

I know the producers had something to say about what he had to do to look better in the public eye, and I think that after he has done so much, for him to be fired, is awful. They should have let him go right away, but they didn’t want their show to suffer. Giving him hope that if he turned things around he would be fine was wrong.

Everyone said that he seemed like a different person on set. What are we telling people—that even if they try their hardest, do what we say, and begin to get treatment for their issues, they still can’t be forgiven? We let alcoholics back on shows, drug addicts get their jobs back, but a man with an anger problem gets used for ratings and then dropped. Robert Downey Jr. was an addict and got an Emmy for his role on Ally McBeal. What are we saying?

He did make the mistake, but now this is the producers’ mistake (first that Gizzie crap and now this). I am done. I won’t be watching next season. I think a lot of people, black and white, gay and straight, don’t agree with this and won’t be watching. You can’t get rid of one of the greatest assets just because of an argument. Everyone argues backstage, and sometimes in front of the camera too, but if their work is superior, and they are making changes, let them grow.

And let him stay. They need to reverse this decision. He is really important. Christina needs him, and the show needs him. Big mistake!
