Did Avril Lavigne Record Stolen Music Lyrics?
Did Avril Lavigne steal her latest music lyrics? Songwriters Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer have filed a lawsuit alleging that Avril's song titled "Girlfriend" was stolen from their 1979 song, "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend". The early track from The Rubinoos sounds suspiciously similar to the one released by Avril. Her manager told the Associated Press that the claim is ridiculous and they even have proof. Avril's people hired a musicologist to study the two tracks and he conveniently ruled in her favor calling them "completely different songs," according to TMZ. I wonder if the musicologist released his findings before or after he cashed his big fat check from Avril.

Very possible.I listened to both songs, and they have striking similarities.
She wasn’t even born then and it’s not like it was a popular enough song that she ever would have heard it.
She doesn’t need to be born to know a song. I wasn’t born when Beatles songs came out, but I still know the words. Elvis too…
31 seconds, it sure is a short song. Well, the music is different. And in the 31 seconds played, some of the lyrics are similar. But when you get right down to it, most pop/rock songs are about some guy or girl wanting some other guy or girl.
I wasborn in’66 and I listen to a lot of music and I’ve never heard “boyfriend”.Other than “Hey Hey You You I Wanna-” they are not the same.
the intro sounds exactly alike…..that is how people are trying to get away with stealing music..listening to old not very known music and changing it up a little..i think she needs to pay up…
I thought that her song sounded like “Hey Mickey” when i first heard it. It sounds more like Mickey then Boyfriend, Sorry guys no money for you.
