What's the John Mayer and Ricki Lake Gossip?

Earlier this month, Page Six reportedly caught John Mayer and Ricki Lake at a holiday party "sequestered in one of the VIP booths, whispering in each other's ears and occasionally grazing each other's thighs." It was also mentioned that John, 30, once had a crush on the former TV host.

So, is there any truth to the John Mayer and Ricki Lake gossip? People got to the bottom of it when they spoke to Ricki, 39, on the subject. "I swear to God, there is no story. I met him at a party. He admitted he had a crush and I admitted, hey, vice versa. That was it. I wish there was actually something to tell. There was nothing," she said.

Then why did the not so single John, who recently ditched singer Jessica Simpson to date actress Minka Kelly, exchange phone numbers with Ricki? Maybe he's keeping her on the back burner just in case things start to fall apart with Minka.
