American Idol Season Finale Recap

Tuesday May 20, 2008
Update: With millions of votes in his favor, David Cook took home the title!!

Here is your official American Idol season finale recap and right off the bat, round one did not disappoint. To start off, David Cook covered U2's "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and it was just average in my book. Personally, I think it sounds infinitely better on the Rattle & Hum album, but that's just me.

David Archuleta took the stage and belted out his version of Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and he all but brought the house down. Randy called his performance flawless and referred to his vocals as crazy. The normally cranky Simon Cowell was clearly moved and his comments for DA were clear and to the point. "Tonight's performance was arguably the best. Round one goes to Archuleta," he said. I couldn't agree more.

Round two was pretty uneventful, with DC and DA each performing an unknown song. Randy told DC, "You were singing your face off there." After DA belted out another beautiful performance, Simon said, "Round two goes to David Archuleta" and the crowd went wild.

The judges were extremely pleased with DC's cover of Collective Soul's "The World I Know" in round three. DA's version of John Lennon's "Imagine" left me speechless and the responses from the judges were unanimous. Randy said, "Dude, you're so good tonight. You are exactly what this show is about" and Paula added, "You are stunning tonight."

Simon ended the finale with a perfect critique for DA. "This show is about finding a star. In my opinion, David, you came out here tonight to win. What we have witnessed here is a knockout." I imagine the Idol phone lines are burning up right now and to be honest, I'm definitely casting my vote for David Archuleta. He has star material written all over his adorable face.

David Archuleta is awesome! I do feel sorry for David Cook because it was obvious that he realized he was losing. He seems to be a nice person, and I know he will go far in his career. Having said that, David Archuleta has been the winner from the start. He is just good, that’s all. There were several good singers this year, but he was bomb! Best wishes to David Cook, Syesha, Jason, the awesome Carly, and all the others.

Perhaps Simon should apologize to David A. re his “knock out” comment at end of performances. Could that comment have caused EXTRA voting for David C. .his fans thinking he was losing the race??????? Both David A and David C deserved to win but I feel Simon’s statement was crucial and might have swayed the voting.
