Breakout designer Ashleigh Verrier unveiled her Spring 2009 line at Fashion Week in Bryant Park on Saturday. I was lucky enough to get a peek at Verrier's whimsical yet highly feminine collection. Celebrities in attendance for the show included Nigel Barker, Timothy Burstein, Lindsay Price, Amanda Ross, Judith Light, and Camille Gauty. Here's what Ashleigh had to say about the inspiration behind her newest designs:"I've been reading a lot lately about the psychology behind fairy tales and cartoons, which despite their seeming innocence can be pretty dark. I'm also looking at the work of Nina Bovasso, an artist who draws these mad floral explosions that always include the unlikely color black. It's a darker, more complicated beauty that I'm trying to get at," she said.
Verrier also partnered with Viactiv to launch "Style and Strength for Life" at this year's Fashion Week. Through this health initiative, Viactiv hopes to maintain a tradition of commitment to women's health that includes a program targeted to increasing awareness around breast cancer through the Susan G. Komen for a Cure organization.
