Top Celebrity Fashion Looks at the Met Costume Institute Gala

From , former About.com Guide

All the hottest celebrities from a vampy Jessica Simpson to a bursting at the seams Salma Hayek came out to show off the latest fashions for the Met Costume Institute Gala on May 8, 2007 in New York City. While some of the fashion looks were hits and misses, they were all equally memorable.

1. Jessica Simpson

Arriving an hour apart from John Mayer, Jessica Simpson's look was way over the top. From her vampy red lipstick to her low-cut Roberto Cavalli halter top number, I didn't know where to focus my eyes.

2. Salma Hayek

The pregnant future bride to Francois-Henri Pinault, actress Salma Hayek, looked beautiful as usual in a black velvet maternity dress, even if it may have been a few sizes too small.

3. Lindsay Lohan

The recent rehab dropout, Lindsay Lohan, arrived late to the event in Van Cleef and Arpel jewels with a Zac Posen gown that left very little to the imagination on top.

4. Renee Zellweger

In true Renee Zellweger form, she opted for another boring strapless black gown by Carolina Herrera and paired it with jewelry by Van Cleef and Arpels. I was definitely not a fan of her super short haircut which did very little for her petite facial features.

5. Mary-Kate Olsen

In a super low cut black feathery dress by Lily et Cle, you could practically see the bones protruding from the frame of Mary-Kate Olsen's tiny and fragile chest.

6. Scarlett Johansson

Bucking the trend of long gowns, Scarlett Johansson opted for a short and flirty number by Stella McCartney paired with vampy black fishnet stockings. Needless to say, she looked a bit out of place at the gala.

7. Kate Bosworth

Looking healthier than usual, Kate Bosworth was a refreshing and beautiful throwback to the 20's in her champagne Prada gown paired with Fred Leighton diamonds.

8. Cameron Diaz

Pop singer Justin Timberlake's ex, Cameron Diaz , donned a gorgeous fuschia dress by John Galliano for Dior and bright blue turquoise jewels from Fred Leighton. The look was lovely, but reminded me of a very similar one pulled off by Sarah Jessica Parker just a few years back.

9. Sandra Bullock

The wife of tough guy Jesse James, Sandra Bullock, looked super skinny in a deep pink Alberta Ferretti strapless gown. She paired the look with a Lorraine Schwartz floral cuff bracelet.

10. Juliette Lewis

In her long and shapeless purple shimmery dress and gold headband, Juliette Lewis was a total disaster. Fashion guru Cojo called it when he said that she kind of looked like Pocahontas.
