Actress/singer/fashion designer Jennifer Lopez has finally decided to open up about the recent demise of her much publicized marriage to singer Marc Anthony. While she has kept quiet for the most part since the split, Jennifer, 42, did give an interview to the fabulous Vanity Fair magazine for their September 2011 issue.
She talked openly about how important it is that she feels respected and loved by a partner without feeling as though she has to compromise herself in any way shape or form. Jen even talked about her current feelings for her future ex-husband since they called it quits.
In an effort to clarify the situation, she told the magazine: "It's not that I didn't love myself before. Sometimes we don't realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself - if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now."
Even though this will be her third failed marriage, there wasn't a lack of effort to save the marriage according to J-Lo. In fact, it was quite the opposite. She admits that the two made every effort to make things work but to no avail. The mother of 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme, continues to remain positive and optimistic about the prospect of finding love again with someone new.
"Sometimes it doesn't work and that's sad. But I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love. It's still my biggest dream. I am positive, determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong," she said.
When asked about her soon to be ex-husband, Jennifer had nothing but kind and civil things to say. Despite the incessant rumors surrounding the split with some even alleging that Marc was verbally abusive and extremely controlling when it came to Jennifer's burgeoning career, it looks like the superstar chose to take the high road in this situation. The comments certainly did come across as carefully scripted and possibly even rehearsed, but at least she played nice. Jen decided to skip the mud slinging in favor of a simple yet respectful statement saying, "I will always respect Marc as a singer and performer. He will always be in our lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my children."
In July 2011, when Jen and Marc made the official announcement to the media that they were going their separate ways, they released a joint statement saying, "We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
After a brief whirlwind courtship that came as somewhat of a surprise to many fans, Jennifer and Marc tied the knot in June 2004. The wedding itself was an extremely private and intimate ceremony at her home in Beverly Hills. The two went on to enjoy seven long years of marriage. Let's be realistic here and note that in the fickle world of Hollywood romance, seven years practically counts as an eternity.
But were those all happy years? Either way, these two also had a long history together as friends and they share custody of two adorable twin kids so they both walked away from something pretty significant. Let's hope that both Jennifer and Marc can pick up the pieces of their shattered relationship and go on to find happiness again.
