In August 2008, rumors quickly began circulating all over the internet that actor/comedian Bernie Mac (Bernard Jeffery McCullough) was dead. His rep, Danica Smith, quickly approached the media to refute the gossip once and for all.
"Bernie Mac is still alive and being treated in a Chicago hospital for pneumonia and is expected to make a full recovery. We once again ask that the press respect his privacy and that of his family. Mr. Mac is responding well to treatment and will be released soon" she told People magazine at the time.
Sadly, just days later on August 9, 2008, comedian Bernie Mac did in fact die of pneumonia at the young age of 50.
