By , About.com Guide

A London Bridge

When London declared civil-union ceremonies to be legal, Elton John was practically first in line. On the very day that it became legal, he wed his longtime love David Furnish in a beautiful star studded ceremony at the couple’s home.

The Big Names Show Up to Celebrate

Guests of honor at the big event included Ringo Starr, Donatella Versace, Liz Hurley, Claudia Schiffer, James Blunt, Michael Vaughan, and Victoria Beckham.

Now his good friend and fellow British musician, George Michael, 42, is ready to tie the knot with his partner, Texas native Kenny Goss, 47. The couple, who have been together for 10 years are planning on having a relatively small private affair in London this June.

More Rights for Civil Unions

The legislation, known as the Civil Partnership Act, grants couples new rights in areas such as employment, pension, and inheritance. It would also afford them the same tax rights as any other married couple.
