In January 2008, Nicole Richie's former fiance, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, talked openly and bravely to Glamour about his painful past that included a suicide attempt. DJ AM was at rock bottom at only 24 when he found himself extremely overweight and addicted to crack.
"I went into my living room, reached into a cabinet and grabbed my gun, a loaded .22, cocked it and put it into my mouth. I pulled the trigger. The gun didn't go off. I thought, 'Are you kidding me? I'm such a failure I can't even kill myself?' I dropped the gun and broke down. That was the turning point in my life," he told the magazine.
After a couple of failed attempts at getting clean, things really started to turn around. With nearly ten straight years of sobriety under his belt, it seemed like his future was getting brighter.
Sadly, on August 28, 2009 at the young age of 36, Adam Goldstein was found dead in his NYC apartment. Police who responded spotted a crack pipe and prescription pills on the scene. Perhaps those old demons still haunted him after all?
