Christina Applegate Talks About the Double Mastectomy

In an interview that aired on Tuesday August 19, 2008, Christina Applegate talked openly to Good Morning America about her brave battle with breast cancer and how she is 100% clear of the disease. Choosing not to undergo chemotherapy or radiation, she opted for something more aggressive.

Even though doctors only detected the cancer in one of her breasts, she chose to have a prophylactic double mastectomy. When she tested positive for the cancer gene, she knew what had to be done.

"My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me-the only one that seemed the most logical was to have a bilateral mastectomy. I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing. I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one," Christina told Robin Roberts.

And her diagnosis? She proudly proclaimed herself to be free of cancer. I'm absolutely 100% clear and clean. It did not spread and they got everything. I'm definitely not gonna die of breast cancer," she said.

Not only has she been given a clean bill of health, but Christina's next mission is raising money to see that other women can get the early detection care that they desperately need. It's wonderful to see her making the best of a tough situation and also reaching out to help others. She is definitely at the top of my favorite celebrities list.
