Did Avril Lavigne steal her latest song lyrics? Songwriters Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer have filed a lawsuit alleging that Avril's song titled Girlfriend was stolen from their 1979 track, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend.
The early version from The Rubinoos sounds suspiciously similar to the one released by Avril. Her manager told the Associated Press that the claim is ridiculous and they even have proof.
Avril's people hired a musicologist to study the two tracks and he conveniently ruled in her favor calling them "completely different songs," according to TMZ. I wonder if the musicologist released his findings before or after he cashed his big fat check from Avril.
