Is the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire child star, Rubina Ali, (who played Latika) really up for sale? Hoping to cash in on her 15 minutes of fame, Rubina's father decided to try and sell his nine-year-old daughter, according to News of the World. You heard that correctly, Rafiq Qureshi allegedly tried to put his own child up for adoption. Illegally I might add. The selling price? 200,000 pounds. (nearly $300,000) The entire family is said to be living in poverty in Mumbai, India so he thought this would be his ticket out. "I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future," the girl's father said. Her uncle added, "The child is special now. This is NOT an ordinary child. This is an Oscar child!"
Reporters from News of the World, posing as a wealthy family from Dubai, contacted Rafiq and offered to fly out and buy his daughter. They were tipped off by neighbors and planned to expose the whole thing. They certainly did a fine job of that.
