On Friday's show, Ellen DeGeneres announced to her loyal fans that she and Portia de Rossi were planning to tie the knot. "The California Supreme Court overturned a ban on gay marriage. So I would like to say for the first time, I am announcing that I am getting married," Ellen told the audience.

She quickly received a standing ovation as the cameras panned over to find Portia smiling through her tears of excitement. True to form, when the clapping slowed down, Ellen went on to find some humor in the moment.

"Thank you thank you. I'll tell you who the lucky guy is soon. I'm so excited. It's something that of course we've wanted to do and we've wanted it to be legal," she added. Congratulations to Ellen and Portia for weathering those breakup rumors and proving the critics wrong.
